hey. last week tim and i had a fab couple of days tradding about freycinet.

we climbed a nice looking line  immediately to the right of 'Titus groan' on Mt Amos north face. After looking at the topo photo we thought it maybe  an undescribed climb. although looking at the guide descriptions now it maybe  Gormenghast. has anyone done this route???? and it is kinda  'obvious'.

Its just the description for Gormenghast doesn't quite match....  my current inclination is to modify the gormenghast description but i may be operating from a presumptive position...

i put a line on the topo photo in the guide.and may add a clarifying topo photo for this wall later.

Mt Amos

Either way  it goes at about 14 and is one of the nicer easy routes around. Varied climbing and a full 50m pitch with reasonable gear.. minor run-out at start.

wooooo!

  1. Not sure Dave.... haven't done it... did Titus once and found it run out.... both routes put up Phil Cullen and Mark Burton - haven't seen either of them for years... I'll forward your query to Garn Cooper who may remember where the route goes.

  2. Hey Dave, had a response from Garn about your Gormenghast query..... he said,

"Tell Dave he just did gormenghast, and if he can improve the description, well and good."

    thanks Al.

yes its hard to imagine someone not wandering up there. I'll make a luscious description for gormenghast.

Phil Cullen was working around dpiwe (now dpipiwe) about  10 years ago. I think he was more into surfing.

where is the enigmatic Garn cooper these days? there seemed an oozing folklore around  him in the mid nineties. I think i heard he was lost in central australia. last i heard.

if i was God i would get Phil Cullen and Garn Cooper together, send them into the wilds and make a climbing movie about them....
