Having difficulty accessing any of the route descriptions on thesarvo website. The page loads but the routes are not visible. Empty page syndrome! anyone else having the same issues? Cheers, Al
You may have noticed the article in today's paper about the council purchasing the trunk yard in front of Fruehauf:
This is undoubtably good news for climbing there, and the council is fully supportive of climbing at Fruehauf, and improving the environment and amenity of the cliff. Members of the CCT went to the event on Friday morning, and we were very pleased with how keen the council is to help us. Tony and Doug were getting the aldermen all excited about flood lighting and a boulder park - what happens in reality is another question
However on the down side, after taking possession of the land the council has been advised that they need to restrict public access to the trunk yard until it has been environmentally remediated, as it contains public hazards (broken glass, toxins etc). Based on this advice, the council has fixed up the fence in order to keep the general public (particularly kids) out. This will be up until the first phase of the remediation is done (probably Autumn - they cant put grass down in summer as it doesnt take). Once the basic stuff is done the council will be looking to work with climbers to plan further works eg track building, weed removal etc.
The council stressed to the members of the CCT when we met on Friday that the cliff itself is not closed, they just need to keep the general public out of the truck yard for liability reasons.
The CCT asks that you respect the HCCs request of not going through the trunk yard. There are a couple of alternatives for accessing the cliff in the meantime. Probably the best and most legal way is to walk down the rivulet track past the truck yard and scramble up the bank and then up and left to the right hand end of the cliff. There is a bit of gorse and blackberry yet to be removed this way, but would only take a few minutes with some clippers.
If you have any concerns Stu Scott is the CCT access officer for cliffs on HCC land.
I've got a Thule Ocean 500 roof box for sale. It's in pretty much new condition, i.e. still looks great and works just as well as it did when I bought it. Fantastic for putting gear in for an extended climbing trip away somewhere. Naturally it locks up so everything inside is secure. It's a great thing and I'm only selling because we don't need it anymore.
Info on its size:
Dimensions & Weight
Length: 2260 mm
Width: 550 mm
Height: 370 mm
Weight: 12 kg
Maximum Load
50 kg
Here's a picture:
For more information you can look at this website.
The equivalent current model is called the Pacific 500, which is exactly the same dimensions and weight. Although it carries the same load as the Ocean 500, Thule claims the volume for the Pacific 500 is 20 litres greater at 330 litres.
The Pacific 500 sells for $575 but you can have my Ocean 500 for $300. I might consider a slightly cheaper offer if you're quick off the mark ...

I have some surplus draws that need a new home (random mix of biners for the dirtbag unsponsored look, combined with big BD logos on the draws to give u the sponsored look... a confusing look... yin & yang draws I call it), nylon is pretty much new except for mamba dmm one as I replaced them but never really used em.
There are 14 in total (prefer to sell together) $150 for lot.

Was anyone else watching the coverage of the Australia v NZ test today at Bellerive? If you were you may have caught site of one of our own local climbing celebrities picked out by the cameras and lauded for his fashion sense. Gold. No prizes for guessing who it was.
just a quick note to let everyone know that some of the CCT contacts on the SAR list did some training up on northern buttress last wednesday afternoon. it was more aimed at upskilling the police crew, while building valuable friendships that will be essential if we ever are called out for a rescue.
if you are on the contact list, thanks again for making yourself available! again if you think you could bring some skills to a SAR environment get in touch with myself and i can add you to the list!
summers just starting to warm up so get into it! go for it with the knowledge that if something goes wrong, some friendly faces will come to your aid.

I've just moved to Tasmania and am on the hunt for people to climb with around the northwest coast. I'm currently living near Burnie, am a fairly novice climber - only just started leading really basic routes and am comfortable seconding/cleaning up anything to about a 17 or 18.
If anyone's heading out climbing in the general Burnie/Sisters over this weekend or anytime in January I'm super keen to come along and would happily be a chauffeur if needed too.
Internet access is a bit limited where I'm currently living so if anyone's keen/has climbing friends in the area I can contact let me know on 0439771484.
As a deal sweetener, I'm fairly clean, not an axe weilding maniac and don't generally make a habit of listening to death metal or dub step whilst driving. Unless that's what you're into...
Anyone climbing in the gorge weeknights over summer? Pref Mon/Tue.
Thanks.
Hi All,
I just created a FB group called Launceston Rock Climbers - feel free to join.
Hey guys, My gf and I coming from Sydney to visit family in Tasmania (Devonport) around the Christmas period (17-27th). I only have sport climbing equipment at the moment and i see Hillwood is a good spot. I see we have to call bob or Gerry, are these numbers still good?
Shaun
Warning. Garry reckons the BM rap station needs a new bolt or chain. May need a back up in the meantime.
Due to miscommunication, I managed to leave a green camalot C4 on the trail between the observation deck and the top of the organ pipes. I went back to search for it today, but could not find it - perhaps someone else came by and picked it up? If you found it, I would greatly appreciate it's return (and could show my thanks in the form of six green or brown bottles). My phone number is 0458 330 521.
Cheers,
- Barry
