<text id="49" class="heading2">Deep Glen Bay</text>
 <text id="66" class="text">Introduction:
Deep Glen Bay as a climbing location was discovered by the Jackson Brothers on their 'mega' coastal traverse heading south from High Yellow Bluff. Since 2013 Hamish has been taking various teams out mostly by boat, although the initial trips were by foot and then by kayak. Most climbs completed are Deep Water Soloes (DWS), although some trad lines have also been completed, and there is substnaital potential for climbs of various types.

The bay and immediate surrounds is remarkable for the number and variety of caves, islands and archways. There is also quite a variety of quality rock types on offer, with the following listed in order of how many climbs have been put up on each type, to date: Granite, Limestone, Conglomerate, and Black Silt Stone.

There are numerous lines with clear fall lines into deep water; there are also plenty of lines with dubious landings - be really careful out there! First ascents of many lines have been an incremetal process, and end-points of many climbs at this cliff are not always clear. Many vertical climbs end at a point where an easy down climb or good jump spot is reached.

Season:
Most climbs have been completed between December and April. One doesn't necessarily want a super hot day unless targeting lines in south facing caves; mild still and sunny days are ideal for the sunny faces, as long as you bring lenty of towels and dry off immediatly after each fall. The westerly swells don't have much of an impact on this section of coast so there are many days when the cliff is in condition. Conditions are obviously poor when easterly swells are running and bit hard to predict if, say, a 230 deg swell (SW) of greater 3m is running.

</text>

 <text id="50" class="text">Access:

Boat:
The easiest access to Deep Glen Bay is via boat. The EagleHawk boat ramp can be rather busy, although smaller boats have the option of the lesser used smaller ramp. Times from Hobart: 1 hour to boat ramp, 10mins launch, 10 mins boat (40HP on small zodiac).

By Foot:
It is also possible to walk to Deep Glen Bay from the Cape Surville track (Hylands road access). It is a long walk (2-3 hours) and access to many climbs is inconvenient even once the Bay has been reached.

The coastal traverse from Walters Openning (near high yellow bluff) south to Deep Glen Bay is highly recommended, but an epic day out. There has also been a failed attempt to traverse from DGB to Pirates Bay - many caves made for slow progress!</text>
