I was down at Sisters this week and noticed that there are a lot of badly rusting remains of bolts that are next to the new glue in bolts.  I would like to try to clean them up if I can and I am hoping there might be some bolters out there who have some tips.  I'll try prying them out but if that fails I was considering punching them back in then sealing the hole with putty or sika to prevent further leaching of oxide down the rock face.  From what I can see it's only going to get worse left in its current state which would be a shame as these are some of the most aesthetic sport climbs in the state.  Any thoughts?

  1. Drill the metal out? No experience in doing so, but my guess is that rusty mess is softer than the rock?

  2. is there anything left sticking out? if its flush you could do it like jon says, drill it out with a normal HSS drill bit. then mix up some glue to conceal?
