Sisters Beach Bolts

I was down at Sisters this week and noticed that there are a lot of badly rusting remains of bolts that are next to the new glue in bolts.  I would like to try to clean them up if I can and I am hoping there might be some bolters out there who have some tips.  I'll try prying them out but if that fails I was considering punching them back in then sealing the hole with putty or sika to prevent further leaching of oxide down the rock face.  From what I can see it's only going to get worse left in its current state which would be a shame as these are some of the most aesthetic sport climbs in the state.  Any thoughts?

Relics

We were climbing on Central Buttress today. At the bottom of Peregrine there was an old knotted sling (in the old days there weren't any sewn slings) covered in moss hanging in a tree ...

When Stu had a closer look he realised it had to be one of his (the ends were sewn down to stop the knot from coming undone) and must have been left behind as a rap anchor when he followed Adrian up the first ascent of Pugnacious, back in 1990. So, here's two old relics, reunited once again ...

Fruehauf Tree Work Postponed

Hi Climbing community,

The Hobart City Council has advised that the tree work planned at Freuhauf for this week (Jan 8th) has been postponed due to the high winds of the last few days. The winds have created a substantial workload for the arborist team that have diverted them elsewwhere. The winds have also created uncertainties with the hire of the crane needed for Freuhauf.

Therefore the site is open for climbing until further notification.

Richard Greenhill (Bushland Project Officer) will correspond with climbers when another date is rescheduled for this work.

Happy cragging

Al
