Hi all. My girlfriend and I are planning to move from Brisbane to Launceston in about six weeks time. If all goes well we should be there for at least two years. I'm going to be sad to leave Frog Buttress behind just as the winter season starts up, but I'm hoping that the abundance of awesome rock in Tassie will more than make up for it. As far as I can tell there's no public climbing gym in Launceston - so I'm wondering where I should go to meet climbers? Will anyone be climbing at the gorge at that time of year (May)?

    Hey Scott, there's actually a climbing gym opening in a recreation centre after Easter (see attached photo).  It's located at the PCYC in Newstead.  There's also a very active Facebook group where it's easy to meet people to climb with. https://www.facebook.com/groups/185218551570398/ The Gorge and Hillwood are both good in May.  If you're into Frog Buttress cracks you will love the local dolerite!

    Thanks Ben. I'm definitely looking forward to the dolerite cracks. Still need to sort out a place to live. Arriving in winter is going to be a bit of shock to the system. We were sweating in 33 deg heat at Frog on Saturday...
