Hi all-
If you have any cams with wires frayed or broken, I can fix most types of cams. I brought my Nicopress swager stuff (from my old A5 days) back from the US this time. I might need to charge a few bucks for materials for each fix. I live out in Cremorne. Send me an email at deuce4@bigwalls.net
I'm looking to replace the old slings on all my cams--they're probably 20 years old. Anybody got a industrial bartacker and a good selection of new webbing of various colors available?
cheers

Also looking for a place to buy industrial piano wire for the part that goes into the cam--any ideas where to get piano wire in Hobart?

Hey John
try using old bike spokes. Also for the wire I use tracer wire (plastic coated) from fishing supplies, they have ferrules (swages, crimps what ever you want to call 'em) as well. Any luck with the bar-tacker?, the leather worker next to snowgum is pretty good, and I think he has spectra thread(?)

Don't know what you mean by industrial but Mcann's model world in Elizabeth st have a range and will probably be able to tell you about suppliers

thanks for the tips, I'll check em out. The model shop sounds like a likely candidate for good quality piano wire of the type used in cams.
Re: bartacker: I checked out Height Dynamics in Brisbane based on a tip from Adam, they charge $15 per cam, a bit too pricey for me at the moment. Looking into buying a cheap used industrial machine, but the next crux will be where to find 7 different colors of webbing!

Bike spokes that's a great idea, thanks Windy been trying to figure that one out :)
If you get real lazy you can buy a repair kit which has everything you need from here

Hi John
Glad to hear you're still around/back. If you get the bartacker and tape colour issues sorted out, let me know: I've got some old cams that should have the the webbing replaced as well.
Cheers

Got some good piano wire (called "music wire" here--the high carbon spring steel that can take bends well) at McCann's, so can fix most cams now.
Sam came by with a new Metolius cam with frayed carbon fibre trigger wires, and it turns out that they superglue the carbon fibre in both the cam holes and the trigger, which would require drilling out the holes to replace the trigger system, but we jury-rigged it with a cable splice to replace the frayed carbon fibre. Best for repair would be the normal design with music wire in the cams, and cable wire to the triggers.

Have you managed to locate a bar tacker and the tape you were after?

no, only the $15 per cam quote, plus shipping. Looking for something local...

Are you still in the same place up in South Hobart?
