Unfortunately a small community bouldering wall run by some local climbers (totally non profit) has been asked to leave its current home due to planning 'use' restrictions in the building. It was brought to the council's attention by The Climbing Edge, which was unfortunate as we had advised The Climbing Edge of our plans and they said they were supportive of a low-key wall for keen climbers and admitted that as a business their main focus was school groups.
We are now seeking a commercial building with good height (4m +) and reasonable room to have a wall run and used by keen climbers. Though the initial concept was a small group of friends using a free space in a friend's home (much like most backyard woodies) we now have to ramp things up in scale to have enough funds to jump through all the council hoops plus get insurance. In the long term this new model will serve more climbers better as a good second facility in Hobart.
Please email hobartbouldering@gmail.com if you know of a space or have any suggestions.

Hi,
I lost a red/black jacket on the weekend of the 8th August. I think I may have left it at the slideshow/BBQ at the Exeter hall. If anyone happened to find it it, please drop me a line on rjhalsey AT gmail DOT com.
cheers

For the history buffs, Tony found an online copy of the '69 Pipes guide:
Hello, I'm looking for someone to climb with, Grade 20 and above. I'm really motivated and keen to climb indoors or out (when the rain stops...)
I moved from Italy to Tassie a few months ago to be with my girlfriend here, who was also my climbing partner until she became too pregnant!
So if you're keen please contact me on 0429332801 or send an email to philipp.tamara@gmail.com
Cheers, Philipp
As we all are suffering from some sort of vitiam d deficiency! buying stuff might cheer you up!
Thought this might be of some intrest.

Just looking for some one on the northwest coast who is willing to teach me how to climb. I have just started climbing indoors and have a few basic skills but no gear. Can anyone help me?
Seeing as it hasn't been reported elsewhere yet...
I heard a rumour that Sam Edwards has done his long time project at Lower Taipan Wall, Grampians, called it Zeus, and has undergraded it at V13.
A very old picture: http://www.vi-bouldering.com/Gallery/showcase/sam_projecting.jpg
Just uploaded some videos from the weekend.
Adam onsiting his new problem. Superb effort see if you can spot the crumbling holds.

Pretty impressive - what happens when you fall off 12m up soloing a granite slab:
When we edited the Mountain guide, we had the policy that a climb had have been repeated and confirmed to get 3 stars. Looking at the list of 3 star climbs in the Climb Search, I'm not sure this is true for these harder climbs:
Mind's Eye 70m 24 The Columns
Mildly Amused 35m 25 Bulging Buttress
Wootang 45m 25 Teardrop Gully
Completion Backward Principle 27m 26 Rockaway and Amphitheatre
Once in a Lifetime 55m 26 The Columns
The Colour of Magic 24m 26 Teardrop Gully
The Fifth Elephant 25m 27 Rockaway and Amphitheatre
Blubber boy 15m 29 Ferntree
Cheshire Cat 25m 29 Lost World Area
Kick Start 12m 29 Ferntree
Future Shock 8m 31 Ferntree
Anyone besides the first ascencionist want to vouch for their quality? Tony's concise definition of 3 stars in the intro of the guide is "An absolute ripper, a 'must do' climb."
Yes I know its mainly a sport area, but I found two nuts on a mixed route at Hillwood on Sat 4th July. If you think they are yours drop me a line on rjhalsey AT gmail DOT com or 0488088670
cheers

Sad self-promotion - I've produced a book of climbing stories from the last few decades which can be found here if you can be bothered blowing a large amount of money on a small book.
http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/630832
Sorry for the cost but I don't make any money on it - they are digitally printed on demand so aren't too cheap, but the printers are in the UK or Europe so post is dear too.
A couple of stories have also been re-printed here:

Some of the stories have apperared in Rock and Crux over the years, some are previously unpublished.

Video clips from Pete Steane of old codgers having fun on the Pipes last year. Centaur and Raspberry Jam. (TCIA, referred to in the clips, is the Tasmanian Climbing Instructors Association if you don't know!).
Hey guys,
I'm looking for climbing courses or instructors in Tassie to learn the basics of climbing for a group of three people. I've been doing alot of googling and can't find much on the net at all, other than a course with World Expeditions. I've also tried emailing the Tasmanian Climbing Instructors Association asking for advice, but never got a reply.
My question - Is there anyone in Tas that teaches Climbing???
I'm quite desperate to give it a shot, as are my friends. Can someone give me a bit of advice? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
