On May 31st Jake said the Ben Lomond update had incorrect topos and descriptions. In 3 months since then he has not provided me with corrections. I assume he's talking about the couple of routes he put up on the Laendler face. There's a reason why we didn't do those lines back in the 80's. We only bothered to do the best looking lines. We must have walked past the Laendler face hundreds of times and dismissed Jake's lines; discontinuous wide cracks up a broken looking face. If you want to climb shitty wide cracks, get the correct descriptions off thesarvo.com

  1. i mean this in the nicest way possible, your not doing yourself any favors to lift the 'gerry's a wanker' line of thought that 99% of tassie climbers hold. its a great attitude to have to think, 'i didnt do it so it was worthless'. really gets progress going. yeh your gonna come out and abuse me, but how about u SHUT THE F&*K UP and just enjoy your climbing, no-one cares... someone had to say it....

    simon :)

  2. I wouldn't hold your breath, Gerry.
Considering the majority of the Tasmanian climbing community was waiting around for information on Ben Lomond routes and areas to be published and released to mere mortals for 10-15 years or more, I'm sure you'll find the patience somewhere in your heart to wait a decade or so for a few pages of corrections.

  3. Who is this anonymous tool? Where is Jake? I have asked a straight forward question to him - to justify his criticism of our guidebook being a rushed job and to provide corrections. Why is it that Simon and other members of the Hobart Wankers Club feel compelled to write on his behalf? A host of talented and still active climbers spent many days on the Flutes and didn't do those lines of Jake's - Bob McMahon, Ben Maddison, Neale Smith, Mick Ling, John Fantini, Simon Parsons, Bruce Cameron, John Smart, Robin Thompson. Good on Jake for putting up some new routes - if he wants to climb shitty wide cracks thats his choice. If he won't provide corrections to them, get the correct descriptions from the incomplete and mistake riddled web guide to Ben Lomond on thesarvo. I wouldn't bother going back to Mt Anne. I checked out those routes 25 years ago and thought they were worthless.

    Some quotes spring to mind

"it is the peculiar quality of a fool to perceive the faults of others and to forget his own" Marcus Cicero

"Any fool can criticize, condem, and complain. And most fools do" Dale Carnegie

    and finally

"Better to remain silent and be a fool than to speak and remove all doubt" Abraham Lincoln

  6. Here we go again.

I don't mind robust discussion, and even dysfunctional dialogue, but the policy on thesarvo is that its a real name forum.

As such I have removed the anonymous or semi anonymous posts from this thread.

Gerry - I've removed most of your replies to them as they would otherwise be way out of context.
