Greetings

Notification has come from Jerry Romanski, the Program Leader of Arbiculture and Nursery for the Hobart City Council, that he and his team intend to inspect the trees above the cliff for hazard potential between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday the 10th of September. He asks that climbers stay away from Fruehauf during that time in case rocks might be dislodged from the cliff top during the inspection. Please respect this request and pass on the information to anyone you know who might possibly be thinking of going to Fruehauf for a climb during that short time frame.

Cheers

Doug

Here's the latest update from Jerry Romanski. Please note the dates for the work to be carried out next week and facilitate the work being carried out in a safe and timely manner by keeping away from the crag during working hours.

    Cheers

We inspected the trees along the top of Fruehauf and found that 4 present a serious risk of injury to climbers and anyone belaying / watching below.  Two are large blue gums badly damaged by decay and earlier fires.  The other 2 are smallish stringybarks in very poor condition.

We investigated our options for the removal process and decided to use a large crane based on the flat below suspending a cage to access the trees.  The trees will be cut into sections and dropped to the ground at the base of the cliff.  We will then use the crane to lift out the debris and process it on the flat.

The work is booked in for Tues-Thur next week, 7 - 9 October 2014, with the crane work likely to take up most of the first 2 days.  If we have any time available within this window, we will also clean out the large dead wood in the trees below the cliff.
