Hi-

We're moving to South Arm, and I was wondering about bouldering south of Lauderdale and beyond. Have heard rumors about some areas, but haven't seen anything in the guide. Sea level choss would be fine, with mountain bike access even better.

BTW, I found Lark's Edge a spectacular little crag. Unbelievably scenic. Thanks for the recommendations from folks on this site.

cheers

  1. hey John
there is a bit of rock at Roches beach, lauderdale. I haven't been there since 1994 but i hear people talk about it occasionally. The Rookeries (in "other crags"

    Unknown macro: {south-east}

) is where its at... Ok maybe its not bouldering but its a cool looking crag from the water. Maybe u could arrange access for the rest of us!?...
there is also tealeaves and henna crags around from clifton beach to the south.

    1. Went to Roches Beach--couldn't see any rocks as far as I could see in either direction, though perhaps around the corner on the north end of the beach?

What general area is the Rookeries?

      thanks for the info!

      1. oops. sorry. really must have been longer than i thought since i was there. maybe look around to the north.
The rookeries are in Thesarvo guides under "other crags" in the south-east section.
they are further south around the coast from the other clifton crags.
        goodluck.

      2. Cant say I've found any worthwhile bouldering anywhere on south arm

I've never been to the Rookeries, its one of those 1970s crags that has never seen the light of day again. Developed by Peter Jackson et al, but access banned by farmer I think. Kayak may be an option if the swell is down?

I think its the crag in centre here, but don't quote me: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=-43.020572,147.521067&spn=0.013099,0.019312&t=h&z=16

        1. Thanks for the info and help, Jon and Dave. I'll be exploring around soon...

  2. >>>the Rookeries?
