Updating and reprinting the Climb Tas selected best guide - new climbs and revamped in full colour. Since the book came out in late 2005, some good new routes have been done around the state. PLease make suggestions as to which of the new routes should be included in the new selected best guide. Especially Pipes, Tas peninsular, Freycinet, Tyndalls. If you have quality high res action photos, there is a guidebook in it for you if it gets published. Mail disc to me c/o 5 Howard St Invermay, 7248 or narkowiczg@lcs.tas.edu.au  Thanks

  1. I didn't think there would be room in the guide after the whole of the north was put in there (wink)

But seriously.. I don't know about new routes but the index linking to the climb number rather than the page number in your guide is my biggest hate. I'd think about changing that.

    1. Your're right. I'll just put all of my new routes in plus lots more photos of me. Good suggestion to change the indexing system.

      1. The Pipes access has changed recently as the Wellingtoin Trust has cut new tracks, installed some additional sign posts, added parking etc. You may want to consider changing some of the access details - let me know and we can amend it - plus suggestions for new lines.

        1. Thankyou Tony. Can you email me the access changes, or just copy from thesarvo? Interested in southern boys suggestions for new lines since 2006

      2. you may as well stick with what you did last time! (wink)

I guess Boneyard should feature heavily.

Talk is Cheap and Certified Wise seem to be enjoyed by those that have done it. The access has changed a little at Cape Raoul and would be happy to write that up for you if you like mate. Been out there a lot in the last few summers!

SE face of Mt Anne routes are classic, some of the best alpine dolerite about in my opinion.

Paradiso would be good to update, more routes down there and some good topo's.

I like topo photos that have the route number, grade and name within the photo for ease of reference.

It will be a welcome guidebook so happy to help out where i can. I'd suggest it would be great if you used thesarvo as a resource, on the agreement that in future information would be available to go up on thesarvo of your new areas/routes etc. I don't see the real need to have two main sources for information.

        1. Thanks. Cape Raoul new acess info would be helpful, and suggested paradiso new routes.

          1. Gerry, do you have a time line in mind? When do you need copy by? There has been a proliferation of rap stations, new access tracks, new climbs and of course the Guide now reads L to R, not R to L as is in the Classic Climbs. Soooo, quite a bit of a re-write is necessary and could take a while to do. Maybe you could discuss with Jon basing it on thesarvo site  as a select quide or something, or has someone the time to do it all?

PS Steve Brown's contact details have changed for Rysavi.

            1. Will go to print in time for next summer season. So sometime in next 3 months. I will rewrite the selected best L to R, add suggested new climbs etc - are the rap stations, tracks recorded somewhere?

              1. There will be a map that you can include in your intro. Still not quite finalised because there have been little bits recently added to the original plan as it has become clear that they were worthwhile link-ups.

P.S. Just had word that we should have an updated map of the track network in a couple of weeks.

              2. All the rap stations are on thesarvo (where else?!) as are new routes and some of the changes to the tracks. The access to all the various buttresses and sub- buttresses is being re-written and also access from the top down, as the Trust completes their work. Is there an address/email/website climbers can send their updates to or are you doing it all on line through thesarvo?

  2. Id say
    Mt brown all sectors.
    Fingal (Bone Yard)
Star factory (lots of hard and good routes have gone up since the last edition).
Routes on the ben (adams 28  and yours on the southern end)
Tyndalls (witch craft, live the life and How hard can it be)
    Cape Raoul
Dougs and Deanos route on the Totem Pole
White Water Wall area (Forever Young, Exocet)
    Mt Wellington  (Priapism, Pleasant Screams)

there are many more , cool gets me psyched

  3. Gerry, I've uploaded a bunch of tassie climbing pics that should get people psyched (smile) (also ones from the boneyard on the weekend are there)

    1. Thanks very much Jed. A new guidebook will be yours by the end of the year. Anyone else like to contribute photos and route suggestions would be much appreciated.

  4. Hey Gerry for interests sake I did a search for all the routes on thesarvo with a FA of 2005 or later, with 2 or 3 stars. There's lots.

See   New routes since 2005 with 2 or 3 stars

The one missing which prob should be in the list and maybe in your guide is Jake's route Freedom on the columns, which for some reason never got any stars (prob because Jake didnt give any and nobody has repeated it?)
