Great timing ... the end of 2 eras ... Ben Cossey freeing Gilgamesh ( the antiquated practice of freeing old aid lines ) and the Ben Lomond Guide ( encapsulating the antiquated notion of pure-trad-crags... RIP Frog Buttress )

Prolly a wake/celebration as much as a book launch ...

...place , instead of listening to ' a few selfish greenies ' , then it's more than likely that the post-Craglets-dudes , active between 2010 & 2020 , will find comfort and wisdom in picking and bolting the ' dolerite cherries ' , that are in abundance , on Ben Lomond ... instead of listening to ' a few selfish idealists ' ... especially when they see, rationalise, and copy , how their millenium ' role models ' bolted the sh#t out of the Pipes and other places ...

  3. Very impressive Gerry (and Bob). Will open a whole new era of new routes to add to the history I'm guessing - especially on the lesser known crags.

Speaking of lesser known crags, it answered one question for me. One time I drove up the Ragged Jack fire trail, and followed it all the way out the other end along the Nile (you need a proper 4wd to do this, its rough, although not as bad from the Nile end). Before it descends down to the Nile, you can see a very big crag up on the left through the trees - probably not a huge walk from the trail - 2km or so on the map. Its marked on the map in the guide, but not named.

I always thought it was Africa, but thats much further south on the other side of the Nile (as I'm now informed). Anyway the crag isnt mentioned in the guide, presume no routes ever done on it.

I'm pretty sure it's the crag in the centre of this map: http://maps.google.com.au/?ie=UTF8&t=h&ll=-41.569096,147.628441&spn=0.013967,0.027637&z=15

Did anyone ever check the crag out? Choss?

    1. nah, these were just warm-ups!
